Paper Title: Adverse Reactions: the effects of public relations in the public sphere
Dr Kristin Demetrious is an experienced media and communication practitioner who has operated her own consultancy, and at various times, worked in house as a publicist, video producer and public relations administrator. She also has a background in community activism and in 2003 received the Centenary of Federation Medal from the Australian Government in recognition of her contributions over ten years in urban greening and placemaking projects. In her university teaching, she has drawn extensively on her experience as a media specialist and academic researcher to provide students with new intellectual perspectives in public relations, delivered through unusual pedagogies and innovative learning resources such as online role play and virtual workplace simulations. Her research interests include discourse studies, communication in sub-political movements and the ethics of public relations. Her work in published widely in Australia and in the UK.
