David McKie

Dr David McKie is a Professor in the Management Communication Department of Waikato Management School. A Scot by birth, an Australian by naturalisation, a resident of New Zealand by choice, and a citizen of the world by inclination, he enjoys balancing a sense of justice with a sense of humour. He wrote one of the earliest books on the cultural and social dimensions of environmental impacts for Sage in 1997 and a 2007 book on Reconfiguring Public Relations: Ecology, Equity, and Enterprise. This appeared in Routledge’s Advances in Management & Business Studies series and won the 2007 NCA PRIDE award for “innovation, development, and educational achievement in public relations.”Including forthcoming work, he will soon have published: 22 book chapters, 44 refereed journal articles, and delivered over 50 international conference papers.

David is the CEO of RAM Consulting international and works as a change, leadership, and strategic communication consultant. He has run workshops for individuals and organisations in the private and public sectors in China, Europe, Korea, India, the Middle East, and the US. He has acted as consultant and/or run development courses for such organisations as Carter Holt Harvey, Fonterra, Intervet, Mauri Ora, New Zealand Police, NZL, OPUS, Sri Lanka Insurance, Te Puni Kokiri, Waikato Health, Telecom, and Zespri.

David serves on the editorial boards of Public Relations Review, the International Journal of Strategic Communication, Management Communication Quarterly, and The Journal of Asian Entrepreneurship and Sustainability, is reviews editor for the Australian Journal of Communication, and has just been appointed to the board of Journal of Communication. A reviewer of book proposals for Oxford University Press, Stanford University, Hampton Press, and Sage, he currently has a book proposal under review and is co-writing two further books: one on Leadership and another on Action Research.
